Chapter 1
Mistycloud faced her clan leader,Robinstar. The brown tom glared at her, but underneath his anger, Mistycloud could detect a pang of sorrow. Just a moon ago, she was convicted of killing Redstripe, the deputy. Although it hadn't been her who killed the deputy, it was Robinstar's brother Mudfur. Mudfur had plotted his revenge on his brother for becoming leader by killing Robinstar's own loyal deputy. He had made it look as if Redstripe was killed by her claws and he succeeded in doing so. She had tried to tell her leader the truth, but would he believe his own littermate would kill. It was a simple no.
"Mistycloud, never would I think you would take the bloodstained path you have taken. I thought you were loyal and one day hoped you would follow in my pawsteps," Robinstar said, he seemed to choked to speak as he added, "You are to leave this territory, if you are found on this territory after sunset, my warriors have permission to attack you,"
Mistycloud glared at her leader,"Fine, but your a mousebrain to not see the real traitor," She hissed. As she began to walk towards the gorse tunnel, she looked back and quickly added,"This is not my clan!" Mistycloud snarled.
As Mistycloud walked to the exit, Mudfur leaned over to her,"Oh, how predictible! You really thought Robinstar would believe you? Oh, how it makes me burst with pride!" He sneered.
Mistycloud lashed her tail,"Shut your mouth! I'll get my revenge, oh, I will. Keep watching Mudfur, because next time you see me, it will be the last time you see any cat!" Mistycloud hissed, lashing her dark grey tail.
Mudfur snorted,"Oh, I'm shaking in my pelt! Starclan help me!" The tom said sarcasticly. Mistycloud fought the urge to leap at him and sink her claws into the traitor's throat. She slowly pushed her way through the exit, ignoring the insults thown at her. As she trotted through the lush forest, she couldn't help but thinking about how she would never share tongues with her clanmates ever again. Never would she hunt for them or fight with her life for Earthclan. Never would she because of Mudfur. Never. She would now live her life as a rogue, stealing the other clans food to survive. But Mistycloud knew something, she would get her revenge on Mudfur, but not just him, the whole clan. She didn't care if she would have to. It was to get revenge, and she knew of plenty of rogues who'd love to help. Mistycloud unshealthed her long curved claws, she would get her revenge, and soon.
Chapter 2
Mistycloud gazed at the overhanging moon, it floated high in the sky above any tree. She struggled to stand up in the cramped hollowed out tree. It had been only a day since she was exiled, her first day alone was emotionally painful. Being a rogue was the worst thing that could ever happen, she felt pitifully small without her former clanmates. She stared up at Silverpelt. She kept wondering why Starclan wasn’t there to support her. Had they abandoned her? Mistycloud’s dark gray pelt looked silver in the moonlight. A screech of an owl startled her, she quickly sat up, her pelt bristling with fear. Mistycloud forced herself to calm done, she felt uneasy not being beside her clanmates. The dark gray she-cat felt tired, but couldn’t bring herself to try to sleep. Finally, she closed her eyes and managed to fall asleep, when Mistycloud awoke, it was dawn. Mistycloud panicked, forgetting what happened the past few days. Finally, she realized what had happened. Her stomach growled, Mistycloud stretched. She felt cramped sleeping in the hollowed out tree. She sniffed the air for any presents of prey, she could hear the scuttling of a mouse a few fox-lengths away. The mouse was busily rummaging around for food, Mistycloud carefully stalked the small mouse through the undergrowth. The mouse stopped and looked around, about to run. The dark gray she-cat didn’t give it a chance, she pounced, giving it a killing bite. Mistycloud pricked her ears as she heard rustling in a nearby bush, she sat up, half expecting a fox to appear. Instead a lithe muscular brown tom appeared, she instantly recognized the tom. It was Mudfur.Mistycloud stared in shock at Mudfur, her paws felt frozen to the ground. Mudfur narrowed his eyes,"You didn't think you'd see me so soon, now did you?" He sneered. Mistycloud felt fury rising in her chest, she struggled to contain it.
"H-how'd y-you f-f-find me?" She cried out.
"Oh,it was easy!"The tom said,"I just followed your scent, you know I can smell," Mudfur said in a raspy tone. He unsheathed his long sharp claws,"Scared, are you not?" Mudfur said, it was hard not to hear the proudness in his tone.
Mistycloud lashed her dark gray tail,"I'm NOT scared!" She hissed, flattening her ears. She could hear the blood roar in her ears and Mudfur yowled and lunged at her throat. Mistycloud swiftly dodged it, drawing back, she lashed her claws. Mistycloud felt her claws rip into flesh. Mudfur drew back and flattened his tail. "Oh, now whose scared?" She mocked. Mudfur let out a yowl of fury and lunged at her again, throwing her to the ground. Mistycloud was winded as she hit the ground. Mistycloud saw the brown tom raise his paw for a death blow. Mistycloud rolled away, jumping back up to her paws. The dark gray she-cat lunged at Mudfur's throat. The tom ducked, Mistycloud crashed into thorns. The thorns pierced her skin, like claws. She struggled to pull out but the thorns wouldn't release their vise-like grip. Mistycloud lashed her tail and growled and Mudfur neared. Was this the end? She thought, fear gripping her. Mudfur snorted,"Nows who scared!" He mocked teasingly. She could hear it echo all around the forest. Wait, she thought. This is only a dream! She blinked open her eyes, but the dream felt so real! She thought to herself. Mistycloud felt cramped and tired, she felt as if she needed a moon of sleep. Pulling herself up into a sitting positon, she began to wash herself. Mistycloud listened to the birds sing. Drawing her paw over her ear, she was distacted for a moment as she heard a rustling in the bushes, she pricked her ears. A tom's scent drifted to the roof of her mouth. She felt alarmed at first, her fur bristling, then she realized it was probably just another rogue and nothing more. Mistycloud yawned and walked out into the open, her paws touching the soft, lush grass. The tom was brown with white paws and had yellow piercing eyes.
Chapter 3
Mistycloud stared ahead at the tom, the brown tom didn't smell like a clancat or kittypet. But, the scent was all to familiar, it was Thornclaw, Redheart's follower. When Redheart had been banished from the clan, he had gone off and teamed up with other rogues. Some cats say Thornclaw was the reason he had betrayed his clan for his own power. Thornclaw was formerly of Clawclan and was a very dangerous and strong cat. Mistycloud knew she would run into one of Redheart's former rogues, but not this soon. The brown tom glared at Mistycloud,"I know you!" He spat, lashing his tail from side to side,"You tried to kill Redheart, but instead that fool of an apprentice Brightpaw did. That fool must of had some great luck!" The brown tom hissed, his tail fluffed up to twice its normal size. Mistycloud stared in horror as Thornclaw was about to attack. Would this truly be the end? MIstycloud stared in horror at Thornclaw, the brown tom's claws were unsheathed and teeth bared in a snarl. Thornclaw lunged at her throat, Mistycloud rolled to the side, digging her claws into the ground. The brown tom crashed into a birch tree, Thornclaw sat up and began to lick his fur, all hostility gone. "Relax," He gently said. wrapping his tail neatly around his paws,"Relax, I'm only here to help you with you revenge," He said. Mistycloud stared at him in complete suprise, her mouth gaping open.
"H-how do you know what happened?" She stuttered, her eyes wide with suprise.
"It doesn't matter how I know," Thornclaw said quietly,"Do you want my help or not?" He questioned. Mistycloud hesitated. Mistycloud hesitated, thinking for a few moments. Everything seemed so vivid, it felt as if at any moment everything around her would disappear like mist. Thornclaw narrowed his eyes as if he thought she would refuse.
Mistycloud gulped, "Sure, I guess," The dark gray she-cat looked away. Everything seemed to be going so fast, and Mistycloud was afraid of what would arise next.
Chapter 4
Mistycloud blinked open her eyes, the sun shone brightly in the sky. Beside her, Thornclaw slept. It had been two sunrises since she had accepted Thornclaw's offer. Today, they would find a place where they had enough space and room for the brown tom's followers. Mistycloud was excited to get out of the small cramped hollow tree trunk. Mistycloud's plan was to have her and Thornclaw's followers to attack Earthclan. After that, she wouldn't need the rogue's help anymore. But Thornclaw insisted they attack many different times, first to steal a couple of kits and then on to a more serious attack. It will be better. The dark gray she-cat admitted.
Mistycloud had started to make her way to the Rockplace, an area where the sun would warm the rocks and the dark gray she-cat had now found the place quite relaxing. Mistycloud sniffed the air, a familiar scent drifted through the air. Riverfur! The gray she-cat carried a thrush in her mouth. Whats she doing out of Earthclan territory? Mistycloud thought, turning her gaze away from Riverfur. Wait! An idea popped into her mind. Riverfur was Robinstar's mate, if Mistycloud could kill the gray she-cat, she would really show that mousebrained of a leader how daring she was. Mistycloud stepped out into the open,"What are you doing outside of Earthclan territory?" She spat scornfully, lashing her dark gray tail.
Riverfur's eyes widened in suprise,"Er-M-Mistycloud...........Er-w-well......" The she-cat stuttered.
"Well, what?" The dark gray she-cat questioned, narrowing her eyes.
"There isn't much prey in our territory........and well I thought I'd hunt outside the territory to hopefully find more prey," Riverfur answered, looking down at her paws.
"Do you think us rogues who are staying out of the clans territories want to lose prey by a mousebrained fool who thinks we have endless prey for each and every cat?" Mistycloud's fur was fluffed up. Flattening her ears, Mistycloud glared at the gray she-cat with hatred,"I'll show Robinstar that I'm more powerful than he thought and that I'm not afraid to get what I want!" The dark gray she-cat hissed.
"Huh-" Mistycloud flung herself at the unexpecting Riverfur, knocking her off her paws. Biting down hard on her shoulder, Mistycloud tried not to let go as Riverfur thrust her hind legs into her stomach. Struggling to hold Riverfur down, Mistycloud lashed at the gray she-cat as she tried to escape. Riverfur spitted in fury and rage as Mistycloud pinned her down.
"Say hi to Starclan for me!" Mistycloud snarled. Riverfur struggled to break free, digging her hind claws into Mistycloud's belly. But, Riverfur's blows were getting weaker. She was getting tired and would soon give up.
Riverfur's eyes widened in horror,"No!" Mistycloud had raised her paws for the death blow and delivered it. The gray she-cat's eyes were glazed with horror and shock. Riverfur closed her eyes and went limp. The dark gray she-cat stared at the limp body. She had done it, and she had just shown Earthclan that she was not scared to rise to the challenge. She didn't care if Mudfur was the reason she ended up like this, Robinstar chose not to believe her and so did the whole clan.
Mistycloud stared at Riverfur's lifeless body, blood stained Mistycloud's paws. When they find Riverfur’s lifeless body on the border smelling of me, they’ll know they made a grave mistake. Grabbing Riverfur's scruff, the dark gray she-cat began to drag her towards the border, leaving a trail of crimson blood. When Mistycloud reached the border, she set Riverfur down on the border. Good, that'll do. Suddenly Mistycloud heard a rustling in the bushes and the smell of an Earthclan patrol. Mistycloud rushed to the bushes, but it was to late, the patrol had spotted her and Riverfur. Her sister Snowheart along with Pinepaw and Robinstar stood before her. Robinstar's eyes widened in shock as the brown tom gasped,"Mistycloud? W-w-wh-what happened to Riverfur? Why'd you do this?" The grief-stricken tom questioned.
Snowheart turned her gaze on Mistycloud, eyes widened in shock and anger. Was her own sister going to attack her? "Mi-m-Mistycloud, why have you done this?" The white shecat exclaimed, fur fluffing up. Pinepaw stood still shaking in fear, fear scent pulsed from the light brown tom.
Mistycloud felt sorrow deep within her, "I killed her because I didn't have a choice," Mistycloud replied, looking down at her paws. Memories flooded through her of when she was just a kit in the nursery, and when she became an apprentice and finally, a warrior.
Robinstar stared at her, grief and hatred showing in his eyes, "I can't believe I used to trust you and one day hoped for you to tread in my pawsteps, " The brown tom started,"I trusted you to make the right choice, but when you killed Redstripe, I was heart-broken," Robinstar began to sob, thrusting his muzzle in Riverfur's flank.
Snowheart glared at Mistycloud, hate showing in her blue eyes,"I can't believe I ever felt bad for you when you were banished!" Snowheart sobbed, "Why did you have to change into the coldblooded murderer you are today!" The white she-cat hissed, fur fluffed up. Pinepaw stood shaking, fear showing in his green eyes. The apprentice was breathing hard, Pinepaw suddenly turned his head away.
"I didn't kill Redstripe," The dark gray she-cat murmered, "Mudfur did!" Mistycloud began to sob, no longer did she feel powerful. Now, she felt like a tiny kit cornered by a fox, "I'm sorry!" Mistycloud sobbed, tears running down her cheek. Robinstar's mouth was gaped open, but Snowheart's eyes filled disgust and hatred. "Just kill me, it'll be for the best," Mistycloud said, lowering her voice to a whisper.
Chapter 5
Snowheart glanced at Robinstar, a blood hungry look in her eyes. The brown tom stood up and nodded at Snowheart, "Stop lying Mistycloud, Mudfur would never kill a cat, " Robinstar said quietly.
Pinepaw looked down at his paws,"I think Mistycloud is telling the truth, " Pinepaw admitted boldly.
Snowheart turned her gaze to Pinepaw, "This cat is a murderer, Pinepaw, " The white she-cat replied and added, raising her voice, "And I'll gladly kill you, Mistycloud!" Snowheart said, hunger flashing in her eyes. Mistycloud stiffened, this was, truly the end. Snowheart lunged at Mistycloud, teeth bared, claws unshealthed. Suddenly a blur of brown fur slammed into Snowheart, three more cats exploded out of the bushes. A small light brown she-cat with dark green eyes, a massive black and white tom with icy blue eyes and a light gray tom. Yowls exploded around her as a flash of brown fur whisked fast her and slammed her into the ground.
Robinstar glared down at her, "How dare you even lay a claw on Riverfur! I'm going to make you wish you never were kitted!" The brown tom hissed, suddenly a blur of black fur tumbled into the unexpecting Robinstar.
"Now's your chance, to steal a couple of kits!" The black tom whispered into Mistycloud's ear. The dar gray she-cat stood in complete suprise. I can't just go steal a couple of kits! The she-cat thought.
The light brown she-cat bounded over to her,"Come on! I'm coming with you!" The she-cat rasped, blood dripping down from her forehead.
"How? They'll smell the blood on you," Mistycloud said, desperation shown in the rogue's eyes. Mistycloud suddenly realized that the rogues weren't just killing for the fun of it, they killed to survive each day.
"All we have to do is roll in that patch of damp ferns over there," The rogue began, "And then we'll sneak into the nursery," The light brown she-cat added with of flick of her tail, "Lets go!"
hapter 6
Mistycloud rolled into the damp patch of ferns, flinching at the cold dew frosted ferns,"Now what?" The dark gray she-cat questioned.
The light brown she-cat hesitated, "We now have to find their camp," Pausing the she-cat added, "You know the way, right?" Of course I know the way! The dark gray she-cat thought.
Mistycloud nodded as the light brown she-cat suddenly said, "I'm Skybreeze, if you were wondering......" Skybreeze said, her voice trailing off as if she hadn't spoke of her name for awhile. "Let's go!" The she-cat said abruptly, a flash of mischief sparked in her eyes for a moment. Does she think this is just a game, nothing more? This is dangerous............
Mistycloud headed in the direction towards the Earthclan camp. I hope this is the right thing to do..... Skybreeze followed behind, a new serious expression spread across the young cat's face. Mistycloud sprang over a log, but misjudged the distance short and fell on her face, a mouthful of pine needles.
Skybreeze rushed over to her, amusement showing in her dark green eyes, "Are you all right?" The light brown she-cat purred.
Mistycloud spit out the pine needles, a few scratches on her face, "I'm fine, thanks!" The she-cat assured, glaring at Skybreeze.
Chapter 7
Mistycloud could smell the familiar scents of the camp, Skybreeze followed close behind, claws out. Soon, the dark gray she-cat spotted the camp, the camp was thickly protected, Mistycloud and Skybreeze ducked behind a tree as a patrol of cats emerged. The patrol consisted of Whitepaw, a snow colled tom, Willowpelt, a milky ginger she-cat, and Mudfur. Mistycloud felt her heart hammering in her chest as she spotted Mudfur. Traitor. The patrol didn't seem to notice the two she-cats hiding a few foxlenghts away. Skybreeze's light brown pelt bristled until the patrol was well out of sight.
"Now what?" Skybreeze asked, "Where should we sneak in?" The light brown she-cat stared at the dark gray she-cat.
"Dirtplace tunnel, " Mistycloud said simply, suddenly realizing how hard it would actually be. If some cat was in the Dirtplace, it would be real trouble. Mistycloud shook her head, trying to get the thought out of her head. She would be destroyed.
Skybreeze nodded, "Kay, " She said quietly, "I guess we should go, right?" The she-cat asked, a determined look on her face. Mistycloud nodded, flicking her tail for Skybreeze to follow. A few moments later, for what seemed like a moon, they were standing beside the Dirtplace Exit. Mistycloud silently hoped there were no kits to steal, but the she-cat knew that Snakekit and his sister, Sandkit were still in the nursery.
Mistycloud sobbed, tears running down her cheek.
